Privacy & legal

This page covers what happens to your data when you visit, whose names appear in my projects, and what you can do with what is here. It is short, because the site does very little.

Privacy

This site sets no cookies, runs no analytics and makes no requests to anyone else. There is no tracking, no profiling and nothing shared with a third party. The typefaces are served from this domain rather than from Google, so opening the page does not quietly tell anybody else that you did. That is not a promise I am asking you to take on trust, there is a check in the build that loads every page in a real browser and fails if a single request leaves the site, or if anything writes a cookie.

The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any host, Cloudflare's servers log requests, including your IP address, and use them to deliver the site and to protect it from attack. That processing is Cloudflare's, under their privacy policy. I have not turned on their analytics product, so I get no record of individual visits.

The only way this site collects anything about you is if you choose to email me. Then I have your email address and whatever you decided to put in the message, and I use it to reply to you. I do not add it to a mailing list and I do not pass it to anyone else. Correspondence stays in my mailbox for as long as it is useful, and I delete it when it is not.

If you have emailed me, you can ask what I hold, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it, and I will. Under UK data protection law you can also object to what I am doing with it or ask for a copy. I am the person responsible for all of this, and the contact section on the main page is how to reach me. If you think I have handled it badly, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

Other people's names

Several of these projects run on other people's products, and describing what a piece of software does means naming them. None of it means those companies are involved with me, have endorsed my work, or have approved anything on this site. Every trade mark belongs to whoever owns it.

The names that appear, in the films or in the text: Meta Ray-Ban Display and Meta Neural Band, OpenAI's Whisper, Claude, Notion, Google Drive, WhatsApp, Windows, ESP32, SQLite and Tesseract.

The documents in the Operation: Life Admin film are invented. The app was run against a throwaway database seeded with made-up bills, a made-up driving licence and made-up account numbers, belonging to people who do not exist at addresses that do not exist. My own records were never opened. Nothing in that film is a real document from British Gas, EDF Energy, Thames Water or the DVLA, whose names appear on those invented papers, and no real account number or address is shown anywhere in it.

The flight list in Come Fly With Me works the same way. The airline codes are real ones, and every flight, delay and cancellation beside them is invented for the demonstration. Do not read anything in it as a record of a real flight.

Work done for an employer

Some of what is described here was done as part of my job. The AR tech demonstrator is built on fluid-lens technology developed at Oxford Optical Labs, and the AWE and SPIE talks were given on the company's behalf. That work and the technology behind it belong to my employer, not to me.

It is described here at the level it has already been presented in public, on a conference stage or in a published paper. There is nothing confidential on this site. Nothing here is said on my employer's behalf either, and the opinions are mine.
